Okay, maybe it’s me, but I hear this in a James Cagney-esque voice. In any case…. this is one of those books Mama loves more than the Kid. Kid thinks it’s fun, but I love reading it, especially with a squeaky mouse voice and a long snore for the bear. What! Come on. You know if you were reading a bear snoring book, you would do it too.
The premise of Bear Snores On is simple. There’s this bear, see. And he takes a nap, see. And there’s these critters, see. Who think… okay, I’ll knock it off.
The bear goes into hibernation, but while he’s sleeping in the cold of winter, a group of animals move into his lair and start holding a party. Then, the bear wakes up. Hijinks ensue.
What makes the book charming is less the fun—but simple—story, and more the clever, intricate rhymes. For example:

Karma Wilson wrote and illustrated other books in the Bear series. Though they are cute, Bear Snores On is magical.
Sometimes, because she knows I love to read it, the Kid will bring the book over for Mama to read, as a sweet present from her to me. And it is.
